The Oni Masks: A Guide to the 10 Generals and Their Shadow Armies

In Season 4 of Jackie Chan Adventures, the stakes shifted from magic talismans to ancient Japanese masks. Each mask houses the soul of an Oni General, granting the wearer control over a specific tribe of Shadowkhan. Here is the definitive breakdown of every mask.

    1. The Mask of Rairakku (Ninja Tribe)

This is the most iconic mask, summoning the standard Ninja-Khan. These warriors are agile, stealthy, and use traditional shinobi weaponry. They were the first Shadowkhan encountered by Jackie, originally under the control of Shendu and later Daolon Wong.

    • User in Show: Chow
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Steel

    Mask of Rairakku

    Ninja-Khan

    2. The Mask of Murasaki (Razor Tribe)

The Razor-Khan are terrifying, spindly shadows with incredibly long, sharp claws for hands and legs. They lack the speed of the Ninjas but make up for it with sheer reach and lethality.

    • User in Show: Ratso
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Silk

    Mask of Murasaki

    Razor-Khan

    3. The Mask of Kiiro (Bat Tribe)

Granting the power of flight, the Bat-Khan possess large leathery wings and the ability to fire kinetic energy beams from their eyes. They provide the Oni with air superiority.

    • User in Show: Scruffy (the dog)
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Rice

    Mask of Kiiro

    Ninja-Khan

    4. The Mask of Midori (Sumo Tribe)

These are the heavy hitters. The Sumo-Khan are massive, hulking warriors with incredible physical strength. They are slow but nearly impossible to move once they’ve set their stance.

    • User in Show: Captain Black
    • Removal Ingredient: Rare Japanese Seaweed

    Mask of Midori

    Sumo-Khan

    5. The Mask of Ikazuki (Samurai Tribe)

This mask summons the Samurai-Khan, who are encased in impenetrable shadow armor and wield razor-sharp katanas. They are the most disciplined and tactically proficient of all the tribes.

    • User in Show: Finn (attached to his posterior!)
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Cherry Blossom

    Mask of Ikazuki

    Samurai-Khan

    6. The Mask of Orenji (Squid Tribe)

The Squid-Khan have six stretchy, tentacle-like limbs. They excel at grappling and can entangle multiple opponents at once, making them a nightmare in close-quarters combat.

    • User in Show: Hak Foo
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Octopus

    Mask of Orenji

    Squid-Khan

    7. The Mask of Kuro (Crab Tribe)

Similar to the Sumo-Khan but even more armored, the Crab-Khan have massive crushing pincers. They act as the “tanks” of the Oni army, capable of snapping through solid steel.

    • User in Show: Valmont
    • Removal Ingredient: Tears of a Japanese Monkey

    Mask of Kuro

    Crab-Khan

    8. The Mask of Mosugurīn (Mini Tribe)

Perhaps the most deceptive, these “Mini-Khan” are tiny, leech-like shadows. However, they have a terrifying ability: they consume the shadows of their victims to grow larger and more powerful.

    • User in Show: Jade Chan (half-mask)
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Blowfish

    Mask of Mosugurīn

    Mini-Khan

    9. The Mask of Aka (Mantis Tribe)

The Mantis-Khan are insectoid warriors with four legs and sickle-shaped blade arms. They are known for their incredible speed and erratic, unpredictable movement patterns.

    • User in Show: Various (The General was summoned directly)
    • Removal Ingredient: Japanese Horseradish (Wasabi)

    Mask of Aka

    Mantis-Khan

    10. The Mask of Tarakudo (The King)

Tarakudo is the Lord of all Oni. His mask is unique because it does not summon a specific tribe; instead, it grants the wearer command over all nine tribes simultaneously. It is the ultimate source of Shadow power.

    • User in Show: Tarakudo (his true face)
    • Removal Ingredient: A hair from a descendant of the Samurai who imprisoned him (Tohru).

    The Danger of the Masks

Every mask carries a curse of corruption. The longer a human wears an Oni mask, the more their personality is overwritten by the General inside. Eventually, the wearer ceases to exist, and the Oni is reborn.

    RankTribeReason for Ranking
1Samurai KhanThe Elite. They have the best defense (armor) and offense (katanas). They are the only tribe that shows true tactical discipline.
2Sumo KhanThe Tanks. Their pure physical power is unmatched. It takes multiple J-Team members just to stop one.
3Mantis KhanThe Assassins. Their speed and blade-arms make them the most lethal in a 1-on-1 fight.
4Crab KhanThe Brutes. Similar to Sumo but with crushing pincers. Extremely durable against physical attacks.
5Bat KhanThe Scouts. Flight and long-range eye beams give them a massive environmental advantage.
6Razor KhanThe Reapers. Their reach is incredible, but they are “glass cannons”—easier to knock down if you get past the claws.
7Ninja KhanThe Grunts. Versatile and balanced, but they lack the specialized “superpower” of the other tribes.
8Squid KhanThe Grapplers. Great for capturing enemies, but less effective at dealing finishing blows.
9Mini KhanThe Wildcard. Individually the weakest, but if left unchecked to “eat” shadows, they can eventually become the most dangerous.

    The Shattering (The Final Disaster)

As Section 13 celebrates securing all nine Oni masks in their vault, the masks begin to glow with a dark, sinister energy. Because they are all in one place, the magical balance breaks:

    • The Masks Explode: All nine masks shatter simultaneously into pieces.
    • The Generals are Reborn: The spirits of the nine Oni Generals (the leaders of the Shadowkhan tribes) are released from their wooden prisons.
    • True Forms: No longer needing human hosts, the Generals manifest their true, giant physical bodies.

    Eternal Darkness

With the Generals free, they combine their powers to summon a massive “Shadow Shroud.” This isn’t just a few ninjas; it is a global wave of Shadowkhan that begins to cover the entire Earth in Eternal Darkness.

    • World Takeover: The darkness erodes all “Good Chi” (positive magic), making Uncle’s traditional spells almost useless.
    • The Army of Shadows: Millions of Shadowkhan from every tribe emerge to enforce Tarakudo’s rule.

The Only Way Out: The 10th Mask

Because the original nine masks were destroyed, Jackie and the J-Team couldn’t just “put the demons back.” They discovered a secret hidden behind a Hanafuda card: The 10th Mask (Tarakudo’s Mask).

In the end, Uncle performed a powerful spell that turned the 10th mask into a “black hole” for Oni. It sucked in:

    1. All 9 Oni Generals.
    2. Every single Shadowkhan on Earth.
    3. The Shadow Shroud (the darkness).
    4. Tarakudo himself.

Uncle’s Lesson: “Magic must defeat magic, but too much dark magic in one room is a recipe for a very bad day!”
